Bench Press v. Chihuahua

Bench Press v. Chihuahua

This lady was doing bench presses. These are real bench presses on a park bench, and some dog was barking. What a racket! Where did it all that barking come from? It didn’t sound like a big dog, but I couldn’t see it.

Then as I got closer and closer with my own dog, I saw this tiny Chihuahua barking like the world was coming to an end… Often Chihuahua will bark because they are afraid, so why did she bark so much? Could be she was afraid of my dog.

Killer on the Run

Killer on the Run

Milo, a Greyhound born in Vancouver, is chasing his Frisbee before killing it. It’s very rare for a Greyhound to be born in Canada. Most Greyhounds in Canada are adopted from Southern US or from Mexican Greyhound racing tracks.

Look at this face, the big black eyes, the huge mouth with all the teeth. I already hear the Red Riding Hood saying: “What big teeth you have!” and Milo answers “All the better to eat you with!”

Frankie, the Dachshund

Frankie, the Dachshund

Frankie is an 11 years old “sausage”, aka a Dachshund, with high blood pressure. He’s very unhappy about it. Now in addition to his other pills, he is also on a low-sodium diet. This means that Frankie can’t eat any of his favorite treats such as pepperoni, sausages, roast beef… It’s a real disaster!

Before Going to Work

Before Going to Work

This was a nice warm and dry February morning. We do have these in Vancouver…

This lady was walking her dog, one last time, before going to work. A quick walk around the block, a quick pee and then Bela will have to ‘hold the fort’ for the rest of the day.

Basenji Watching the Dragon Boat Races

Basenji Watching the Dragon Boat Races

I did this photo at the Vancouver Dragon Boat Races.

Cookie, the Basenji, is not too interested in watching the Dragon Boat races. As long as she is on the shoulders of her owner, she’s happy. It all started when they went for hiking and there a very rocky portion of the hike. Cookie, the Basenji, could not climb some of the rocks, so he put her on his shoulders for that rocky section. Not only Cookie loves it, but it also calm her down, she doesn’t become fidgety, she relaxes and stops moving.

2 Iggies: Vancouver, BC

Iggy is the common name for the I.G, aka the Italian Greyhound. Iggies look cute, they are small, skinny with huge bulging eyes on top of a sleek pointed nose. They look good. Most of them have a nice friendly temperament.

In spite of their long nose, like all Greyhounds they hunt by sight. That’s why at dog races they have a mechanical rabbit along the inside rail to get the dogs to chase it.

After the Kill: West Vancouver, BC

After the Kill: West Vancouver, BC

This Border Collie is running back with his kill ball. He runs back, but not too fast.

I didn’t ask for her name. The owner was busy throwing the ball and talking with another lady, so I didn’t interrupt.

Only 3 Legs and Still Having Fun

Only 3 Legs and Still Having Fun

Pip (or is it Peep, I should have asked how Pip/Peep is spelled) is a Border Collie with only 3 legs.

About a year ago, he had surgery to amputate his front left leg. There was some cancer that “didn’t respond to treatment” (his owner’s exact words). ‘They’ amputated his front left leg. It took Pip a few weeks to recover and now he doesn’t run as much as he did before the surgery but otherwise Pip seems to be OK.
