The Moment in Between: Dog Photography

“The camera cannot lie.” This expression started in the late 19th century when portrait photographers were trying to edge out the painters.

Take this photo of a dog flying. We all know that dogs cannot fly, but they can fly through the air just like in this photo.

How did I do this? And no it’s not PhotoShop. I have not own PhotoShop since the early 2010s.

What do we need?

  1. A fast running dog.
  2. A slow shutter speed.
  3. Me tracking smoothly the dog at the same speed as the dog is running, so almost everything moves except for the dog’s head and her chest.
  4. A black and white photo because life is in colour but feelings are in black and white.
  5. A good photographer, in this case me!
