Cats

Delilah: New Westminster, BC

Delilah: New Westminster, BC

Delilah is almost 20 years old and she’s ‘pissed off’ at me.

I have spent the last half an hour trying to make an half decent photo of her. She did everything she could to hide under tables, chairs, couch… So we grabbed her, put her on Brian’s shoulder and I did all my stupid, silly sounds to get her attention.

Worried Cat

Worried Cat

This cat is worried. Should he run away or not?

He has the ears backwards like he was getting ready to attack. Why, because behind me, there’s a dog, it’s my dog. He’s not threatening, he’s behind me and he’s totally quiet.

This cat is not attacking and I know it. Why? Because of his eyes.

Killer Cat and Survivor: Vancouver, BC

Killer Cat and Survivor: Vancouver, BC

His name is “Max” but his nickname is “The Killer”. He lives in the city jungle and he is both a killer (big time) and a survivor.

Max, the killer: his little bell is for the birds, so they can hear him. Even with the bell, he’s had plenty of successes. He kills birds, especially Chickadees, and often he will bring the dead birds home. His owners are not impressed with his prowess. Once they tried to keep indoor. That didn’t go well. Max kept on searching for ways to escape and there was a lot of destruction. His owners gave up.

Sarah & Salem: Vancouver Downtown Eastside, BC

Sarah & Salem: Vancouver Downtown Eastside, BC

Sometimes the magic happens. I only had 5 seconds to take this photo. As soon as I took the photo, I got pooped on by some crows. On my head, on my jacket… I went to the washroom to try to clean myself and immediately went home to have a shower and wash my clothes.

Salem, the cat, went from being worried when he was in Sarah’s arms to confident and curious about everything when she was in her Goretex jacket.

Cat at Charlie's Food Bank

Cat at Charlie's Food Bank

Tot is extremely unhappy:

  1. He’s an indoor cat. He afraid of the outside.
  2. He’s with a whole bunch of people that he doesn’t know. One person holding him in the blanket. One person cutting his nails and finally me taking photos of his “torture”.
The Could be 'Vampire Slayer'

The Could be 'Vampire Slayer'

This is Biffy. Her name comes from “Buffy: the Vampire Slayer”. Her owner worked on that TV show when the show was made in Vancouver. It ran between 1993 and 2003.

Biffy is a very relaxed cat. Not much fazes her. I am about 1½ meter away (about 5 feet) with my dog just behind me. She’s not concerned. She’s not ready to run away, look at her paws, they are still folded, she’s not ready to move.

Pouch & The Great Outdoors

Pouch & The Great Outdoors

Pouch was an indoor cat. He always dreamed of being a great explorer of the outdoors. Occasionally, he would be successful in his escape attempts. But…

It never was difficult to catch him. He would immediately stop at the flower next to the entrance-way of his house. There, he would spend some time sniffing or eating some of the plants.

Socks, the Cat: Vancouver Downtown Eastside

Socks, the Cat: Vancouver Downtown Eastside

Socks is a very unhappy cat and she’s giving me the evil look. My job is to “bug her” and have her pay attention to me.

I’m bugging her while she is being “tortured!” One person is holding her very tight, another person is cutting her nails. By “bugging her” she’s paying attention to me and not biting Perl who’s cutting her nails.

Inkpad: Vancouver, BC

Inkpad: Vancouver, BC

Inkpad was a stray cat that was found in a back alley of the Vancouver Downtown Eastside. He was scrawny and starving. Lily used only a little bit of ham for Inkpad to get out of his hole and to become an indoor cat.

Why did Lily named him Inkpad? Lily makes graphics with a nib and black ink and it looks like Inkpad rubbed his nose on a black ink pad.

Samson the Cat: New Westminster, BC

Samson the Cat: New Westminster, BC

Samson doesn’t live up to his name. Samson is supposed to be strong, courageous. The keyword here is supposed.

Samson is afraid of almost everything, especially me and my camera with the big lens. So he’s been ‘demoted!’ His current name is just Sam.
