Handle Bars and Trusting Your Dog
Getting my dog to something new is always a struggle for us. He’s so afraid. It’s a chicken in a doggy costume. We have to do that new thing at least 20 or 30 times for him not to be afraid of something and then … if there’s any change or slight variation or … then he will bolt and try to run away.
On the other hand this dog! This dog looks comfortable in the infant seat balancing on the frame of the bicycle with the handle bars. He doesn’t struggle, he doesn’t worry. He trusts his owner! They’ve done it hundreds of times. He knows that nothing bad will happen and let’s face it the view from the bike is interesting because it’s different.
Repetition by doing the same thing over and over is how I’m teaching my “chicken”. My “chicken” is right now ‘a work in progress.”
I’ve had people asking how to do the perfect dog photo. They want the dramatic photo of the dog fly in the air jumping over a log or trying to catch a Frisbee. Is the dog used to do it? Most of the time, their dog have never done it before, so guess what, even me I can’t get that photo that they had in mind. It takes time and practice. The work, the event, the trick, the pose has to become second nature.
What amazes me in the photo is the comfort and fluidity of the guy and the dog just being there, semi-sitting, watching everything going around. To me, this photo represents the relationship between this guy and his dog, better than any athletic acrobatics. To me, this photo symbolizes the trust between the guy and his dog.
