The Power of the Pack and the Minotaur
Having a dog (or many) means walking the dog, in the rain, the snow, in the ice and on nice days too, that’s every day. It was one of these almost nice days and I was walking with my own dog when I saw these two women walking their dogs.
I immediately took photos of the scene:
- the forest
- the path
- the ladies
- the dogs
There were two friends talking and strolling through it, each with their companions making up the entourage.
For me, the main focus for me was the three dogs on the left side especially the Jack Russell. He was off the leash, by himself on the left side, separate from the pack but walking together with the pack at exactly the same speed and in line with the other dogs.
I don’t know why but the Jack Russell made me think of Theseus from the old Greek antiquity. At the time of Theseus, Athens was under the control of the Minoans with the Minotaur, the mythological beast that was half human, half bull. Theseus killed the Minotaur and became king. Why am I thinking about this when I see this Jack Russell? I have no idea but…
Back to our photo, just after taking this photo, the whole pack stopped because the French Bulldog stopped for a quick sniff. He stopped and all the dogs stopped immediately and the two ladies too. No argument, no hesitation, everyone stopped, even the off-leash Jack Russell.
