The Dogs By-Laws
Vancouver, like almost all city, have some kind of animal by-laws. They want to control, regulate and make some money from people with animals.
In Vancouver, the by-laws are 21 pages. That’s only for Vancouver. The neighbouring city, Burnaby, has their own by-laws, so is Richmond…
Here is what I think is the most the relevant one:
4.2 Leashing dogs: A person who keeps a dog must not permit, suffer, or allow the dog to be on a street or other public place unless the dog is under the immediate charge and control of a competent person by means of a leash that is not more than 2.5 m long or another by-law allows the dog to be off leash under certain circumstances.
BTW, the following animals are forbidden in Vancouver, BC: coyotes, foxes, jackals, wolves and Hyenas. Alligators and crocodiles are not welcome either. The problem is that Vancouver, the city of Vancouver, is full of Coyotes. If there is a medium size park in Vancouver, there are Coyotes, not just in the park but the neighborhood.
And now for the main reason, I keep my dog on his leash:
According to Stanley Coren, there are now more dogs stolen than bicycles and according to DogDetective.com with 250,000 visitors per month, only 10% of the stolen dogs are reported as being stolen dogs.
In the last year alone, I’ve had two people offering to buy my dog. https://www.sritch.com/dogs/dogs-dodoite-crazed-corgi-look/ and another one decided that I should give her my dog because “she loves my dog so much that I had to give him to her“
