Fujifilm: Why is the Flash Not Working
Both Godox and Nissin are coming with Fujifilm compatible flashes. But let’s agree that up to now, flash has not been a strong suit of Fujifilm X cameras.
Many people have problem with the flashes not working. The same happens in both TTL modes and manual modes.
The flash does not work when:
- The X-T1, X-T2, X0T3, X-T4, X-T5, X-PRO2, X-PRO3, X-T10, X-T20, X-T30, X-S10, X-S20, X-H2 and X-H2s are in silent mode. It disables the flash.
- The X-T1, X-T2, X0T3, X-T4, X-T5, X-PRO2, X-PRO3, X-T10, X-T20, X-T30, X-S10, X-S20, X-H2 and X-H2s are configured to use the Electronic Shutter (ES).
- The X-T1, X-T2, X0T3, X-T4, X-T5, X-PRO2, X-PRO3, X-T10, X-T20, X-T30, X-S10, X-S20, X-H2 and X-H2s are in any of the bracketing/multiple exposure modes.
- The flash is not properly seated in the hot shoe.
When both the flash and the camera are on, you should see either a flash symbol with “TTL” or “M” (depending on flash mode) on the viewfinder or the LCD.
If you do not see the flash symbol, then the flash is disabled.
Info
The Fujifilm X-Trans cameras have a slightly different hot shoe size than everybody else.
My Canon, Yongnuo and Godox flashes which fit perfectly in my Canon cameras are “loose” in the Fujifilm hot-shoes of the X-M1, X-T10, X-PRO2, X-H2s (my current cameras).
All flashes have a locking pin set but either a wheel at the bottom of the flash or a locking lever also next to the hot shoe.
Make sure that the locking pin is engaged in the opposing hole of the hot shoe.
