Fujifilm: When Was Your Camera Manufactured?
It’s all in the serial number. The manufactured date is embedded in the serial number.
Where’s the serial number?
That depends on which Fujfilm camera model.
- The earlier models like X-PRO2, X-PRO1, X-T1, X-T10, X-T2, and X-T20, the serial number is usually on the battery compartment, there’s the serial number printed on the label attached to the bottom of the camera.
- The newer models like the X-H2 and X-H2s, the serial number is printed in the card slot.
The manufactured dates
- The serial number of my X-PRO2 starts with 63xxxxxxx
- The serial number of my X-H2s: starts with 3BAxxxxxx
And now it gets complicated:
- The first digit represents the Year. So a 1 would either be 2011 or 2021. The decade is determined by the camera model. A 2 would either be 2012 or 2022 and so on…
- The second character is more complicated.
On the older models
It is the quarter that the camera was manufactured. If the second character is one of:
- 1, 5, A, E, J, N or S: it’s the first quarter of the year, January to March
- 2, 6, B, F, K, P or T: it’s the second quarter of the year, April to June
- 3, 7, C, G, L, Q or U: it’s the third quarter of the year, July to September
- 4, 8, D, H, M, R or W: it’s the fourth quarter of the year, October to December
On the newer models like the X-H2, X-H2S…
The second character is the territory:
- A: is the US
- B: is Canada …
- M: Asia outside of Japan
I do not know the other characters for other territories. These I have found by using the services of Dr. Google.
The third character becomes the quarter of the year:
- 1, 5, A, E, J, N or S: first quarter of the year, January to March
- 2, 6, B, F, K, P or T: second quarter of the year, April to June
- 3, 7, C, G, L, Q or U: third quarter of the year, July to September
- 4, 8, D, H, M, R or W: fourth quarter of the year, October to December
This means that my Fujifilm X-PRO2 was manufactured between Jul-2016 and Sep-2016. Since we have a two year warranty, my warranty on my Fujifilm X-Pro2 expired on 30-Sep-2018.
This means that my Fujifilm X-H2S was manufactured between Jan-2023 and Mar-2023 for the Canadian market. Since we have a two year warranty, my warranty on my Fujifilm X-X2s will expire on 31-Mar-2025. Or on the 2 year date of the purchase receipt if it’s attached to the camera since I bought mine in Jul 2023.
