Lightroom: Target Collection

category: Lightroom • 1 min read

Lightroom has the concept of the Quick Collection+. It’s a temporary collection, where you can store photos for whatever purpose, like review later, further processing… You need it especially when using smart collections. Smart collections are dynamic and sometimes you change what’s the selection criteria of the smart collection, like a no-title smart collection and you type in a title… and the photo disappears before you are finished.

Pressing the b copies the selected photo or photos from wherever you are to the Quick Collection+. But when I work on more than one “project”, I need to change the Quick Collection+ to something else, so the photos don’t get mixed up.

  • The collection that ends in + is the current Target Collection. That’s the collection that receives all the photos when press the b key.
  • Do not forget to reset the target collection back to the Quick Collection
