Lightroom: Panels Behavior

category: Lightroom • 1 min read

The Lightroom panels are driving me nuts! They come, they go. Whenever they come and go, it changes where things are. If I move the mouse too quickly, the panel does show up again, I have to click on the panel actuator, the triangle. So I prefer to switch to manual.

To control the appearance and disappearance of the panel, you will need to right click on the panel actuator, the grey triangle.

You will get 3 options:

  1. Auto Hide & Show: That’s Lightroom default. Lightroom will display the panel when your mouse hovers slowly over that area. It doesn’t work if you move too fast with your mouse.
  2. Auto Hide: Lightroom will hide the panel when your mouse moves away from that area. You will need to either click on the panel actuator, the grey triangle or use the tab key.
  3. Manual: You will need to either click on the panel actuator, the grey triangle or use the tab key. That’s what I use. I prefer to control my own environment. I don’t like when “things disappear”.

  4. Sync with opposite panel: You will get the same action as the other panel, so it behaves in the same way.
