Lightroom: Crop Orientation

Walter the french bulldog

I took this photo of Walter, a French Bulldog at the beach. But I took the photo horizontally. It would look much better if the photo was portrait/vertical. Now in Lightroom, can I can do it manually, changing the sides and maximizing the top and the bottom of the photo, or I can can let Lightroom do all that work for me.

In Lightroom:

  1. Switch to the develop module
  2. C for the crop tool.
  3. X to switch the orientation of the crop from horizontal to vertical
  • The nice thing about using the X to switch the orientation of the crop of the photo, instead of doing it manually, is that you can keep the ratios locked.
  • The other nice thing of using the X to switch the orientation of the crop of the photo is that it’s only one step in the history.
