Saluki: Hadden Park — Vancouver, BC

This Saluki is a very old Saluki. Hed’s around 15 years old. He was born in Afghanistan. The wife of the guy I was talking to, got him in Afghanistan when she was working there as part of an NGO (Non Governmental Organization). I couldn’t understand the dog’s name but it was an Arabic name. Very nice dog but definitely not used to the Vancouver cold weather. (But it snows every winter in Afghanistan)

Salukis are very rare dogs. They are the oldest domesticated dog breed and were used for hunting. The Salukis started in the Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan area around 4000 BCE, long before Abraham and Moses… They are the ancestors to the Greyhounds which are a little bit bigger, but not by much.
