Dog sacrifying himself
It was an early spring morning in Vancouver, with the air just warm enough to leave your jacket open or draped over the hips. I heard this woman repeatedly urging her dog to fetch the stick she had just thrown into the sea.
Go get it!"
Go get it!"

The dog, however, was very hesitant about jumping into the chilly water to retrieve the stick. The woman continued her encouragement, and the dog alternated between looking at her and then at the stick before casting another wary glance back to her. Did I mention that the water was cold?
As an early spring day in Vancouver can be quite brisk, I could sympathize with the dog’s reluctance to enter the freezing water.
Finally, against its better judgment, the dog “sacrificed” itself by leaping into the water and successfully retrieved the stick. It immediately emerged from the water, shaking itself vigorously. Normally, dogs shake off the water once or twice, but this time, the dog shook itself at least five times. It was clearly cold, and this dog wanted to get rid of every drop of water.
