A Weird Labrador Retriever
This is Baxter, a very nice Lab. He likes to play and chase his ball, but he’s abnormal once he moves.
Normal dogs keep their right front leg and their rear left leg on the ground and lift the other two to go forward. When they need to run, dogs switch to the two rear legs push and the two front legs lift. Basically, they propel themselves with two legs and use the other two legs to advance. It’s the same for all dogs, for all cats and horses. BUT, not for Baxter. Baxter is a ‘weirdo’! He always keeps three legs on the ground.

Looking at Baxter running (almost), he reminded me of all those Olympics fast walkers doing the 50km or 100km race. By regulation, they must have at least one foot on the ground at all time, so their hips move to make it faster. That what Baxter looked like when he was running or attempting to run. You can see how fast he was running from the ears and the tail.
Jim, his owner, had Baxter x-rayed to see if there was something wrong and according to the vet, his anatomy was normal. The hip was a little bit thicker than other Labs. They think that he never learned to walk properly when he was young.
Dogs are amazing. Dogs are never embarrassed by how they look. This Lab looked ‘weird’ when he was walking with his ball. He was almost walking like the Olympic long distance walkers. He always had three feet on the ground.
His ears flowed backward, and his tail was blurred as he was walking along. Baxter had no idea of how weird he looked and not only that I’m sure that he didn’t care. But to Jim, his owner, the weird walk was one the things that made Baxter special to him.
When I was making the photo at the Ambleside beach, the person said: “He looks so silly, but he doesn’t even know it!” That’s the magic of dogs, they really don’t care about the opinions of others.
If you’ve got a furry friend who brings joy to your life, I’d love to hear about them! Share a photo or their story.
