Two Chihuahuas, One Winter Coat

I was walking with my dog Dodoïte https://www.sritch.com/dogs/dumb-corgi-look/ along the Vancouver seawall, near the entrance to Stanley Park, taking photos of dogs. I was surprised by the number of Chihuahuas there were. I’d expected quite a few, because the vast majority of the people in the West End live in apartments. About half of the dogs I saw were Chihuahuas.

Within a few seconds I took these 2 photos. It’s the same spot as you can see from the small out-of-focus piece of wood just behind the Chihuahuas. It’s the same walk and what caught my eye was that both Chihuahuas wore identical winter coats. These dogs did not belong to the same person, they were walking with their respective owners.

When I took the second photo, I remembered the coat, and I was wondering if this was the same dog that managed to turn around behind my back and walk again. So I checked the photos on the LCD of my camera (which is quite rare) and no it was two different dogs, like I originally thought.

The big difference between these two Chihuahuas is that the first one, is a confident dog, that knows where he’s going and who’s not afraid confident—upright, ears perked, and unfazed. On the other hand, the second Chihuahua knows where he’s going but looks very worried its ears lie sideways, as if listening for a threat, and its eyes are “shifty.”

Another point is how closely they match: same stance, same pace. All dogs follow the same rules, but each has its own personality.
