First Things First

When dogs meet, the first thing they do is sniff each other’s butt. Why?

  1. To establish status. With the butt sniff, they will know each other’s age and their health.
  2. Advertising purpose. Dogs advertise (mostly males) when they pee on the grass, on a tree or a pole. That’s their way of spray painting: “I was here”.
