Learning to Become a Camera Operator

This student, from BCIT (a local college), is learning to become a camera operator with this Sony DVCam camera.

Students cannot learn the eye. Either you have it or you don’t. What they can lean in school are the various techniques. The techniques of reporting, the techniques of operating the equipment, the technique of framing but with such an antiquated equipment?

The DVCams use tapes, actually medium size cassettes that are smaller than the famed BetaCams. Tape, cassettes,… Isn’t it time that the students enter the 21st century and go digital?
